Biography: George Raymond, neighbor of victim | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
George Davis Raymond was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 16, 1956. His parents, Matt and Rose Raymond, had been married for two years when they had George, the first of three children. George didn't mind being the first-born, but always seemed to resent that he was expected to be "the little man" around the house. George wanted to play, not help take care of his two younger siblings. Matt was a fleet mechanic for one of the Boston delivery companies, and often brought George in with him to work. George was fascinated by the sounds, sights, and smells of the busy shop, fetching tools for the mechanics when the bosses weren't around. Once he went to school, George gravitated towards the math and science classes, taking shop (wood, metal, and electrical) when he was old enough to pick electives. During George's last year of high school, he lost his father to an industrial accident at the shop. George became "the big little man" around the house, a role he still didn't want to play. George wanted to go out in the world and do things, build things, dream things, and so he ignored the scholarships offered by local colleges and enrolled instead at the University of Mississippi. Although those southerners might talk funny, they allowed him to be his own man. It was during his junior year at Ole Miss that he met Anna Lee Gibson. Once he graduated and found a job in Oxford, he proceeded to woo his Mississippi Queen. They married in 1981 and had two children, Josh and Jarred. |
