What happened?

The Yoknapatawpha County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of Oxford resident Ambrose Garrett, who was found dead in the Whitehall Community Center on Sunday night, July 15, 2012.

Earlier that evening, Garrett had presided over a meeting of the Whitehall Homeowners Association, which he was president of, at the community center.

When his wife couldn't reach him hours later, family friend Julie Arbuckle went to the community center to see if he was still there. She called 911 when she found him.

Delilah Garrett was victimized (verbally) by an alcoholic father. When Ambrose began drinking heavily, she was so afraid he would become like her father, and I believe he became very belligerent. Julie would do anything to avoid a conflict. That's what got her voted out of office. The hotter the arguments with Ambrose got, the more it unnerved her and she would get up and piddle around with things to avoid sitting there. She asked Jamie to call for an adjournment to keep Ambrose from "embarrassing himself". He was acting strangely but everyone thought he was drunk. Julie lived close enough to walk to the center and it was dark by then so no one would see her. But Chester did. He told them that there was a lady hiding in the bushes. I believe the "man that was following him" was Jamie. I think Jamie was out wandering around and saw Julie go back into the center to set the stage and call 911. There was a lot of time between 9:30 and the 9:52 911 call.
