REPORTING OFFICER'S NARRATIVE (Brief narrative of the facts surrounding the offense and the arrest.)
R/O was dispatched to the scene at 10:04 p.m. in response to a 911 call reporting a man in possession of a human hand at Duffy's Bar & Grill. Upon arrival at 10:10 p.m., R/O entered the establishment and was met by complainant. Complainant said a female customer had notified him that an adult white male patron was in possession of a container he claimed contained a human hand and was displaying same to other patrons. The female customer pointed out subject to complainant. Complainant said he asked subject to show him the container and, after seeing it, decided to notify authorities. Complainant noted subject had been at the establishment for several hours and had consumed multiple alcoholic beverages. Complainant indicated the subject, who was seated at a booth near the street-facing windows.
R/O observed subject had in his possession a plastic storage container. R/O approached subject and requested that he accompany him outside the establishment. R/O also requested subject bring the container. Subject complied. On the sidewalk outside the establishment, R/O noted subject had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and appeared to be intoxicated. R/O asked subject to identify the contents of the container. Subject said it was the hand of his former girlfriend, Lisa Holman. R/O requested permission to examine the container. Subject agreed and turned the container over to R/O. R/O conducted an external examination and determined the contents appeared to be a human hand, severed at the wrist. R/O opened the container to conduct an internal examination. The odor emanating from the container was strong and unpleasant. R/O replaced the lid on the container and terminated the examination. R/O advised subject of his rights and placed him under arrest. R/O transported subject to the Yoknapatawpha County Detention Center for processing.

DEFENDANT'S VERSION/REMARKS (What did the defendant say about the offense or his/her whereabouts at the time of offense?)
Prior to arrest, subject said the item in the plastic container was the hand of his ex-girlfriend, Lisa Holman. During transport to the jail subsequent to arrest, subject claimed it was just a joke and the item in the plastic container was really only a strange root he had found on his farm.
Subject made no further remarks regarding the offenses he is charged with during the time he was in R/O's presence and/or custody.
