REPORTING OFFICER'S NARRATIVE (Brief narrative of the facts surrounding the offense and the arrest.)

At 1:34 p.m., Dispatch received a non-emergency call from Oxford Middle School reporting a student in possession of a skull that appeared to be human. R/O (Unit #225) was dispatched and arrived at the location at 1:37 p.m.

Upon arrival, R/O was met by Principal Goodnight (Person 1) and teacher Carol Edgar (Person 2). Ms. Edgar said she had observed student RJ Brandt (Person 3) surrounded by students on the playground during the lunch period. When Ms. Edgar approached the group, she saw Mr. Brandt attempt to hide something in his backpack. When Ms. Edgar questioned him, Mr. Brandt reluctantly withdrew a small skull from his backpack. Ms. Edgar said Mr. Brandt claimed it was "a little girl's skull."

Ms. Edgar then escorted Mr. Brandt to the principal's office, at which time Principal Goodnight contacted the Sheriff's Department.

R/O spoke briefly with Mr. Brandt in the presence of Principal Goodnight. Mr. Brandt said he had found the skull while digging in his backyard. When R/O asked Mr. Brandt if he knew whose skull it was, Mr. Brandt said he had told other students it was a little girl's skull, but said that was a lie he made up to impress his classmates and that he really knew nothing about where the skull came from.

R/O took the skull into evidence for examination and analysis by the coroner's office. R/O asked Principal Goodnight, Ms. Edgar and Mr. Brandt to remain in the principal's office pending further instruction.

R/O contacted Dispatch to confirm the presence of a skull that appeared to be human. R/O requested Dispatch notify homicide investigators to determine how to proceed. Dispatch notified R/O that investigators would respond to the scene and requested that witnesses be asked to remain until their arrival.
