Detective Samantha Murphy
Detective Ted Armstrong
Detective Armstrong:For the record please state your name and address.
Bonnie Atkins: Bonnie Atkins 124 Nelson Circle, Oxford.
Detective Murphy:So you work at the nursing home.
Bonnie Atkins: Yes, I'm a registered nurse.
Detective Armstrong: We understand you found the body.
Bonnie Atkins: Oh my God!That sounds so cold: "the body." He was a living breathing human being. And now he’s “the body"? Can't you be more humane?
Detective Murphy: Did you know him well, Ms. Atkins?
Bonnie Atkins: We worked together. We saw each other almost every day.
Detective Murphy: I'm sorry for your loss, Ms. Atkins, but there are questions we need answered, if you feel up to it.
Bonnie Atkins: Of course. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to go off like that. What did you ask me?
Detective Armstrong: Did you find the ... ah...the deceased?
Bonnie Atkins: Yes. I was the one.
Detective Armstrong: How did that come about? Bonnie Atkins: I took my break about 4 o'clock and went outside for a cigarette. We aren't allowed to smoke in or near the building. I have a place out by the dumpster where I usually go. When I got there, here's Jerry lying on the ground. I thought he was horsing around so I called to him to get his butt up and back to work. When he didn't move I got closer and noticed he was lying in a funny position and wasn't moving. I leaned over and realized he didn't seem to be breathing. I reached down to find a pulse but couldn't feel one. I immediately started CPR even though he wasn't breathing and I couldn't find a pulse. After a few minutes I realized it was futile so I ran in and yelled at the first person I found to call 911 then I went out front to wait for them.
Detective Murphy: Did you see anyone else around when you found Mr. Shaw?
Bonnie Atkins: No, I don't remember seeing anyone else around there. but there are always people walking around the grounds.
Detective Armstrong: Okay, Ms Atkins. Thank you. We'll be in touch if we have any further questions as the investigation progresses.
Bonnie Atkins:I still can't believe he's dead.
