The shoe fits. Frank's .22 is found in a tool box, and the ballistics will solve Valerie's murder.

But you have two other crimes to solve, two crimes that have a greater thread of continuity. The brothers' deaths are tied by more than blood.

Wed Oct 30 20:41:33 1996

This whole thing is becoming really warped (as if it wasn't warped
to begin with). Are there any suspects in Greg's death?; Who killed the
suspect? Could could there be an extreme fanatic in the church to which
Purity's family belongs who is killing select people connected
with the abortion? Was Jake really the father of Purity's pregnancy?
Maybe Greg was having an affair with her on his out of town trips?
Good Luck!

Response: The only suspect is the man heard arguing with Giblini the day of the murder, and, on other previous occasions. 1) No fanatics yet. 2) Jake was the father. 3) No indication of an affair.

Wed Oct 30 17:52:07 1996

Has the unidentified man been linked to any of the victim's acting performances?

Response: Which unidentified man?

Wed Oct 30 17:44:40 1996

Yoknapatawpha County: Pronounced "Yok nuh puh TAW fuh." A county in northern Mississippi, the setting for most of William Faulkner's novels and short stories, and Faulkner's actual home.

Tue Oct 29 22:29:20 1996

Is it possible that Lisa was threatened by Greg, and that is why she became so uncooperative?

Response: Perhaps.

Tue Oct 29 15:56:25 1996

I dreamt about the cat last night. It was sitting on my chest and meowing at me. Long low-pitched howls, that slowly changed into a human's voice, lamenting.
It seems that thing are going so slowly for all of us--have you considered calling a psychic? Anything now, please, to end my own nightmares!

It's Poe's black cat, anyway.

Response: We have been in contact with a psychic, and several have contacted us. The information gleaned there was more lurid than useful.

Tue Oct 29 14:39:22 1996

Has any unknown DNA evidence found at the murder scene of Greg Gilbin been linked to the two previous murder scenes?

Staci Sprayberry
[email protected]

Response: No.

Tue Oct 29 12:41:41 1996

Who is Tom Ash,the name on the envelope & Valerie's
address?Has anyone contacted the exchange student, what
might have been wrote to him?As an animal owner,if cat
had to be sedated before handling only proves the cat was
terrified by what happened & either perpetrator tried to
handling cat or cat attacked. Was anyone checked for wounds
by the cat? The message on the answering machine from Joey,
identified as Joey Shelton, he seemed to have studdered alot
and as if there was more that he wanted to say but knew that
it was being recorded. In the interview, he stated that he
knew more about her but wouldn't say;WHY? It would seem that
he would tell everything to help find the killer of someone
he stated he thought so much of, don't you think.Computer
hard disk drive sounds as if someone knew what they were
doing. Who would know better than Tom or William Giblini?
They were in high tech on things.Purse, what did the numbers
on the purse mean? Was anyone in her address book of interest
in case? Did anyone contact William Giblini's separtated
wife, why did they separate? What date was it? When did
he leave on this so-called vacation? Was it near the murder
because it seemed strange that no one heard from him? What
was he hiding? Was his travel checked out? Was his blood
or Tom's blood type checked against the blood found on the
cat? Being that they were brothers and Greg's was close
but not a match, it might make sense. Was there any forced
entry into any of the murder scenses? The interview with
Lisa Wood on the parking lot; she is either scared or maybe
knows more also. Due to not answering calls from you and
not wanting to talk to you may indicate maybe she is or has
recieved threats to her? What about Frank Knight & Judith
Knight? They seem to clean especially concerning the faxes
from Purity to Valerie and the college essay written by
Purity.

Response: 1)Ash was the victim's new roommate. 2)The student is a child named Caleb Fisher Wirth. 3) No persons showed evidence of animal bites. 4) The numbers on the purse are a Swiss military marking. It is an army surplus bag.

The other questions are answered elsewhere in the comments page.

Mon Oct 28 21:05:59 1996

I would like to apologize for the misposted theory. I went back and re-read the diary entry on 3/20 when I was read it I did not read it clearly the first time. I still do think it is possible that Joey read the diary. I also still hold firm on the fact that I think that it was not changed through the modem. Did you consider asking Ted to explain how that is possible? Because I have been on using computers and modems for many years and have never heard of that before. By the way who is Ted -- is he just a friend?

Response: No need to apologize -- we're all in this together. Ted was an acquaintance of the victim. She apparently knew him primarily through Greg Giblini. He is on our list for questioning.

Sun Oct 27 06:36:04 1996

i think that the murderer was his boyfriend

Sat Oct 26 14:42:31 1996

This diary entry matches the way G. Giblini was lying when he was murder. I think the killer of Greg read this diary.

4/15, 115

midnight

Greg Giblini is sleeping in my bed for the last time. For a while anyway.

He has very long eyelashes which are red like his hair. Lying on his right side, head resting
on his upturned arm, the left hand was over my hip before I scooted away and now
dangles on the sheet. His breathing deep, steady, rising falling. The skin of his chest is so
smooth.

I also think it was Joey who broke into her diary as I said in a previous comment. If he had read her diary before maybe
he decided to lay Greg as she mentioned in her diary.
At first I though there was a large gap of dates missing but it appears that she just put april instead of Dec. But is it possible that
some dates were erased permanently by the killer?
In the entry dated 12/18 she says she has plans to write it down on paper did you find entries that were in fact written on paper.

Also on the postcard that Val received saying SEE YOU SOON but didn't know from who. Did that postcard get retrieved? If so did it match the handwriting of the postcard Lisa wood sent to Jennifer Breedwood?

Response: The University's computing department reported that the diary file had been 100 percent recovered; however, someone may have altered the file before the drive was destroyed.

We have not found any other journals or writings among the victim's effects.

We have not recovered the postcard.

Sat Oct 26 13:46:02 1996

Here are some of my thoughts on the diary. On 3/20 Joey was over and she mentions the gun as protection to him. That same entry is where the person broke into her diary entry. Notice the gun is mentioned that it won't save her. In entry 3/23 the guy checks out her computer but says someone broke into her modem or they were right there. ... Now from my experience even an expert hacker would have problems going through a modem... Not to mention that a modem is usually associated with getting online or sending information, whereas this diary was probably through a word processor in which a modem would not be associated with the file. No one else was over on that day or so she mentions. There for I think it was definetly Joey who wrote the entry in her diary.
And maybe the sins part is referring to her fooling around with him and then with Greg or Will.

Response: Your observations are certainly valuable, thank you. The entry you refer to isn't entirely clear, however -- the victim mentions neither entertaining Joey at home or telling him about the gun.

Sat Oct 26 12:33:12 1996

I think that Val and Greg broke up,or started seeing other people. Then, Val got together with Will, but still kept a relationship with Greg. Greg didn't know about Val and Will.

Then, one night, Val and Greg were just "hanging out" they smoked some weed and drank some liquor. They got drunk, and things got intimate. They were about to have sex.

The doorbell rang. It was Will. He saw Greg and Val together. He got mad. He was crazy. He and Greg started fighting. They were both so angry. Val didn't stop Will. She let Greg get beat up. Will left. Greg was so angry. He was still drunk and high. He beat her. He killed her. And then he left. But he wasn't done.

He was so angry. he was full of so much anger. He was so hurt -- by his brother, by the loss of Val. He was out of control. One night, he couldn't stand it any more. He went to go talk to his brother, to sort things through. But they started fighting, again. Greg was so mad. So angry. He killed his only brother without really realizing it.

He couldn't take it anymore. He was a murderer. He was crazy. He didn't know what to do. He was so sad. He couldn't live his life in grief. He drank something, some poison, to kill himself. He left himself enough time to make it look like a murderer, and then he left the world. He died leaving shattered pieces shattered, and his angry soul whole.

Response: Your theory is extremely poetic, thank you. The scenario regarding the Vilson case is certainly plausible, although we lack definite proof. Giblini was shot, not poisoned. The angle of entry of the bullet almost certainly rules out suicide.

Sat Oct 26 12:04:29 1996

Is it possible that Giblinis "murder" was suicide?

Sat Oct 26 09:25:04 1996

I think they were about to have sex but, something made her boyfriend mad and he killed her.

How did the cat get blood on it?

Where does here sister live?

You could go and get info. from her sister.

Fri Oct 25 17:24:13 1996

In regard to the comment saying that there are no entries relating to Briana in the victims diary - I'm wondering if you've actually read it.

There are numerous entries regarding Briana - it seems that she along with Greg was an important part of Valeries life and a very good friend.

Fri Oct 25 13:53:03 1996

The following is from the letter that Mr. Knight wrote to the Board of Trustees of the U of A:

"While we at the Church of Christ the Avenger abhor physical violence, we believe sinners should be shown the error of their ways forcefully and relentlessly. I am sure we are not the only organization with such a mission."

Has Mr. Knight been asked about the following:

1) Does he believe Valerie was a sinner for helping Purity with the abortion?
2) What does he mean by the statement that sinners "should be shown the error of their ways forcefully and relentlessly?" Does this include harrassment by phone, mail and intimidation?
3) What are the other groups that he refers to has having the same mission as his? Was he in contact with any of them regarding Valerie's hand in Purity's abortion?

Thank you for continuing to seek justice in such a senseless act.

Fri Oct 25 10:35:48 1996

Do you not find it strange that there's no mention of
either Brianna or Lisa Wood in their "friend's" diary?

Thu Oct 24 19:06:06 1996

Why did he buy condoms when she was taking birth control pills??

Response: That has been an ongoing discussion. The answer is probably that the two items are not mutually exclusive. Many women use the pills to prevent pregnancy and the condom as a backup or to prevent disease.

Thu Oct 24 12:57:55 1996

Well, When Greg Giblini agreed to surrender; he evidently
did kill his girlfriend and the evidence points to him.
He seems to have murdered his brother also. I understand all
of that. Okay, The neighbors said that they heard arguing
and called the police. To whom was Giblini arguing with?
More than likely it was that individual who killed him!

Response: It was a male. The neighbors said they had heard the person arguing many times before. Their description was too vague for an arrest, but the short visits--late at night and early morning---these, fit a drug dealers profile. No suspect has been identified.

Thu Oct 24 11:03:40 1996

Since the cat was so aggressive, did you check under it's claws for any possible skin fragments? Sonya

Response: Thank you. The cat was not checked. In fact, it was only well after the fact that DNA test were done on the bloody cat hair. We tested samples which were collected by the Veternarian caring for the cat. This testing was done at the suggestion of a web viewer.

Thu Oct 24 09:14:19 1996

Knowing that Lisa Wood was a friend of the victim, was she asked to try and identify the picture on the refrigerator? Or If she knew of the name that the envelope was addressed to?

Response: The picture on the refrigerator was later identified as William Giblini, in a theatrical production. The letter was from an exchange student.

Thu Oct 24 09:12:29 1996

On the interview with Cindy Gold on 05 Apr 95, concerning the gun, was there a significance to the New York Times being delivered or were you just confirming?

Response: No significance.

Wed Oct 23 22:09:49 1996

Has Tom Giblini ever been interviewed?

Response: Yes. Since he is not a suspect, and has not agreed to release his information, that is not available.

Wed Oct 23 21:59:31 1996

I think the situation with the Knights is a red herring; it's unlikely they or their group had anything to do with the murder.

Response: They are not suspects. We are investigating any connection they may have had to the victim.

Wed Oct 23 19:14:06 1996

What time did she die?

Wed Oct 23 15:01:22 1996

Are there any leads as to who the suspect Giblini might have been involved with? It seems as though someone was scared he would talk. And what about Ms. Wison's parents, are they suspects in the Giblini murder?

Suggestion to all who post questions to which the answers can clearly be found in the evidence and information already available to us on this site: READ all the information first! For example the question to Greg Giblini - he is dead if you haven't noticed.

Mon Oct 21 19:40:49 1996

Why in Frank and Judith Knight's biographicals does it state that Judith gave birth to their only child Purity in 1976? What about Valerie? Do they not consider her their daughter? Or are they claiming that she wasn't their daughter? When can we expect a complete listing of seized items from the search warrant served in Mountain Home?
Thanks for the interesting sight!!

Sat Oct 19 14:57:53 1996

is there any information regarding the other giblin brother and his whereabouts during the crime? What was his relationship with his brothers?

Sat Oct 19 11:16:11 1996

When you left did you see any body come to the house?

Sat Oct 19 05:46:51 1996

Were there any motives for the murder?

Sat Oct 19 04:52:53 1996

I understand that you would be very busy doing your job but I was wondering if you could advise as to when the the comments here might be updated with your responses?

I've also noticed a lot of people posting questions when the answer to them is already located in the information in the site. It would be a good idea to read the site information before posting a question.

Response: We're still catching up after our trip to Arkansas, and apologize for the delay. We hope to respond to all the comments within the week.

Sat Oct 19 01:49:54 1996

Where is her Friend now?

Response: Your question is cryptic. To which friend are you referring?

Fri Oct 18 21:48:48 1996

Is the blood that of a human?

Response: Your question is cryptic. To what blood specifically are you referring?

Fri Oct 18 15:16:53 1996

Inquiring as to the current status of this case and as to whether or not the whereabouts of the suspect are known.

Response: We are investigating a number of leads and possible suspects at this time.

Fri Oct 18 02:24:59 1996

Has Giblini escaped or is he assumed captured?

Response: It depends on which Giblini you are referring to. Will Giblini was found murdered in Miami July 17, 1995. Greg Giblini was also found murdered March 13, 1996. We're currently investigating the victims' relations with Tom Giblini and Rosebud, although preliminary interviews suggest he is not a suspect.

Thu Oct 17 17:39:43 1996

What did her boyfriend say he was doing there?

Response: Unfortunately, we didn't have the opportunity to question Greg Giblini closely before he was murdered. A chat transcript is the only testimony we have.

Thu Oct 17 04:22:51 1996

HI!!!

Two comments:-

1) It occured to me that the hard drive was erased in order to incriminate the party making the threats to Valerie. It was this and the location of the stabbing wounds that made me think this but I then discounted it because in order for this to have worked the damage to the hard drive would not have been intended to be permenant because the only record of the threats is in her diary and if incriminating the party making the threats was the aim then having the hard drive being irretrievable would defeat the purpose.

Whoever tried to destroy the hard drive intended for it to have been permenant and the only reason to do this is that it contained information that pointed directly to the identity of the killer.

2) Lisa Wood did not change her statement.

If you look at her first statement in the unsolved mysteries footage she states that "I saw them right after that" (referring to them drinking black voodoos). Jennifer did not state at what time she saw this so for Lisa to have know that she saw them "right after that" she would have had to have known what time it was that they were at the bar doing this and therefor have seen them. She has not changed her statement - merely added to it.

Perhaps there is some criminal activity in her past that she is frightened will come out through further investigation or some secrets of her own.

in the beginning it was fun, she was on TV and the centre of attention and then when there was more focus on her she realised she could get into trouble. Can you reassure her that if there is anything in her past she doesn't want people to know about that you will make sure it stays between you and her??

Wed Oct 16 16:53:01 1996

Had any sexual intercourse taken place at the scene of the crime?

Response: To which crime scene are you referring?

Wed Oct 16 13:16:50 1996

When Valerie was born in 1969, Judith, her mother, was a nineteen year old nursing student, and Frank, presumably Valerie's father, was a twenty-one year old, first-year law student who "excelled in topics pertaining to civil liberties." Judith and Frank did not wed until 1971. The couple waited five years to have a child.

'69. The height of the viet-nam era, peace, love, dope and all that free love granola, a time when the forces that made them choose adoption over abortion are as difficult to determine as the rest of the country's moral compass at that time. But how's this for irony: the child whos life they saved through adoption terminates the life of their grandchild through abortion. This can be no small source of consternation for Frank and Judith, if not a motive. Pay close attention to the depths of their religious belief.

Wed Oct 16 05:55:23 1996

I think that Greg was set up by people he knows.
Did you check his relations, friends, or enemies?

Response: We're currently investigating the victim's connection with Rosebud.

Tue Oct 15 01:29:21 1996

I have just spent the past two days (my weekend) reading through this entire site. It is a very intelligent use of the net.

I have a couple of questions/comments:
1) What time was the power drain that is assumed to have been due to the erasing of the hard drive.

2) After much though the only conclusion that I can come to in regard to the damage to the hard drive is that there was information on it that would link the killer to the crime (it seems obvious, but you never know!!). Now, my point is this - after reading Valerie's diary there is not a great deal there that would incriminate Greg. It seems to be the normal up and downs of any realtionship. He was seen with the victim, he was videoed buying the comndoms, the victims friends were well aware that he existed so what purpose would he have for destroying the hard drive? It doesn't fit.

Also, there does not seem to be any entries in the diary that incriminate William either. The entries in regard to him do not seem to indicate that he would just go out and kill Valerie. It also indicates that Greg had accepted the fact that his problems with William should not impede any friendship that Valerie wanted to have with him.

But, due to the fact that DNA has placed him in the appartment at some point lets assume for a moment that it was infact William that committed the murder and erased the hard drive. Why then, would he go to all of the trouble to do this and then leave his photograph on the refridgerator to be found?

And, lets face it, if the hard drive was not recovered and the picture was removed - what else would you have to indicate that William even knew Valerie??

3) Lets assume it was Greg now - why leave the condom wrapper and condoms at the scene? If your killer has apparently gone to all the trouble to wash the victim (which some have assumed was to remove any DNA evidence), erase the hard drive, splatter blood to make it look like some crime of passion etc etc....then why leave evidence like this at the scene??

4) The only thing in the diary that really seems to incriminate anyone are the entries in regard to threats and the apparent break in to the PC or residence to type the threat onto the diary. There were numerous threating phone calls to Valerie. Is it possible to check the phone records of all those involved in this case around the time that the phone calls were made to trace them back to a person or persons?

The person that left the threat on the PC had read the diary and knew it's content, they therefor would have known before the murder that it would have had to be erased.

Did Briana or anyone else in the residence ever pick up the phone when these threats were made and would they recognise a voice if the calls can be traced.

If nothing else, you may eliminate the person or persons who made the threats from the investigation.

5) In relation to the cat having blood near it's mouth - cats can be extremely viscious when attempting to protect someone or something. I have seen a cat that thought a German Sheppard was hurting two children attack it and win!!! It may be possible that the cat attacked the killer, they are extremly perceptive animals and may (although a length of time has elapsed) have an adverse or "out of character" reaction to the killer if allowed near them. If that killer is either of the Giblini brothers then you are out of luck!!

6) Can Williams estranged wife shed any light on the brother's apparent fued or falling out? I would be very interested to see what this is.

7) Are the whereabouts of Valeries birth parents and Purity's ex boyfriend Jake accounted for both at the time of the threatening calls and at the time of the murder?

8) The killer would have had to have had a gun with them upon arrival due to the fact that the gun valerie had has never been used - as far as I can tell there is nothing further to indicate that anything is missing from the appartment so it can also be assumed that the weapon used to disfigure valerie was also bought with the killer to the scene. There is no referance to the fact that Greg had ever bought a gun with him when visiting valerie. Are there any records of the purchase of the type of gun used by either of the Giblini borthers, purities birth parents, Jake or anyone else.
Also, if it was some kind of screwdriver or simialr tool used (as suggested) it may be possible that the killer carries such tools in their car regulary or has a permenant set of tools in their car.

9)Well, sorry for waxing lyrical for so long, I really hope that you solve this and would like to commend you for your foresight in using the net for such a purpose.

Sun Oct 13 23:04:40 1996

Why was there blood splattered all over the fridge, if the
victim was shot in the bedroom?

Response: This question has been a source of much discussion. When the victim was mutilated in the kitchen, the blood released from her abdomen accounts for some of the mess. However, we suspect that the murderer may have intentionally splashed additional blood onto the refrigerator.

Sun Oct 13 21:20:37 1996

The condoms found by the bed: one was missing, yet you said there was no sign of sexual intercourse that night. What if those are a few days old from the 31st (I believe that is the last day that there is talk about having sex in diary)... What if those are being used maybe by someone else... Maybe Greg was buying new ones thinking that he always see Val and they always have sex when he is in town... I think maybe you are assuming those condoms bought in the store that day are the same ones by the bed (but you haven't explained where the missing condom is). I would look for the expiration date... If they are any older than I think it is a year, they are usually old and not bought recently.

Sat Oct 12 23:07:58 1996

Has this been looked into? Joey wanted to become involved with Val. When he tried to get together with her at the rehersal she refused him since she was involved with Greg. Joe didn't take well to this and shot her with Gold's gun that she had for protection. He finished her off in the kitchen. That same day Greg bought some condoms since they always had sex when he was in town. He went over to her house and freaked when he saw her dead body. Dropped the bag of condoms or the condom box and ran. As for the letter he probably felt guilty for not staying with her. In her diary she mentions she wanted him to stay and keep her safe.
With Greg thinking Will wanted to hook up with Val, Greg probably assumed Will killed her and then Greg went and killed Will; or Joey set it up so that again Greg would look like the murderer. So maybe Joey framed Greg on both murders. As far as Greg's murder, it was the same person, I think, because both bodies lay similar and both reveal underwear. I think Joey did 2 out of three murders or all of them.

Response: The victims were killed by a .22 caliber weapon; professor Gold' gun was a .38 pistol, thus ruling it out as the murder weapon.

Still, your theory is interesting. We're investigating leads stemming from Joey's interview, and may bring him back in for follow-up questioning.

To whom it may concern,(October 9, 1996)
Hello! My name is Kelly A. McElheny. I am an undergraduate student at the University
of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY. I am currently pursuing a degree in Physical Anthropology and hoping to
continue on in Forensic Anthropology or Forensic Sciences. I have a problem right now though.
I am trying to locate information on how to identify Taphonomic markings (whether pre-mortem or post-mortem)
to human skeletal remains. I am specifically looking for information regarding knife markings or saw markings,
bullet markings, previosly broken and then healed bone, etc. I am trying to write a paper regarding
the difference in the markings left by these certain things. (ie: serrated edge knife leaves a jagged marking and interuptted marking
whereas a flat edge knife leaves clean markings, and when something is being chopped the bone peels back at the site of
impact.) Can you help me? I am becoming desperate. My paper is due 11/17 and I am running into a dead end. I would really
like to not have to change my topic - I know the info. is out there I just can't find it. I don't have e-mail, but my home
phone number is 716-833-8650 and my address is 241 Lisbon Avenue, Lwr Rr Apt., Buffalo, New York, 14215. If you could send me
some info. or just call me and let me know where I could find it, I would greatly appreciate it.
Sincerely yours,
Kelly A. McElheny

Valerie is found dead on 4/2/95. Purity sends Valerie a fax on 4/3/95:

"I'm going to call tonight
got to tell you something IMPORTANT"

Frank checks out?

I don't think so, Detective Armstrong. A righteous, Church of Christ man driven to write a letter of dissent about J. Elders would surely take more direct actions against any person who assisted his daughter -- who, finding herself impregnated by rape, turns to the only soul in whom she can find a truly Samaritan nature for assistance in obtaining an abortion.

Purity discovered something of great import ... far too late, I'm afraid. Just desserts for past sins ... Giving up one daughter, only to see her assist a more "legitimate" off-spring make the choice he (or his wife) could not make.

Response: Your theory is certainly plausible. However, extensive investigation of the victim's birth family and associates has exonerated them of the crimes at hand. We'll post further interviews and evidence once we receive clearance.

Mon Oct 7 22:09:19 1996

Is there anything to link the drug seizure to the prime suspect?

Is there any indication that the prime suspect made any recent trips to chicago?

Mon Oct 7 21:00:46 1996

In the investigation, it is revealed that both Val and Greg were killed by a .22 caliber gun. Has any ballistic evidence been found indicating they were killed with the same weapon?

Response: No.

Mon Oct 7 19:56:45 1996

What is her cat's name?

Response: I assume you are referring to the victim's cat, Pig. If not, please specify.

Mon Oct 7 00:05:53 1996

Hey, what happened to my inquiry?

Response: It was worded in an arguable manner. I hope you understand. Persons wishing information regarding the validity of this site should write [email protected], with the subject heading: Faulkner

Lisa may be hiding something. She says in her second questioning that she does not remember anything due to being drunk, yet she remembers the cute guy chewing on the bar toothpick "slow and kind of sexy."

Response: We hope to catch up with Lisa Wood soon. Her testimony has certainly aroused suspicion.

Sun Oct 6 14:32:07 1996

Were the caller ID numbers recorded? If so, have they been investigated and matched to anyone involved in the case or given any new leads? Has Brianna been tracked down? School records will list an emergency contact; her parents? A few phone calls should be able to locate her. Has Brianna's other roommate, Annie, been interviewed? She was present at one point with Valerie and Greg and Brianna when a call came in from Wil and Greg answered and hung up. She must have been briefed on the situation going on by Brianna or Valerie herself the evening they were all together. Maybe she has some additional info, at least her impressions of how Greg and Valerie behaved that evening. Please comment.

Response: The caller ID logs were stored on the victim's computer. So far they have not been recovered.

Brianna is currently living at home with her parents. We're evaluating transcripts of a brief phone interview, not released to the public, to determine whether her continued participation in the case is necessary.

Annie has not been interviewed yet.

The Diary: Wuthering Heights and Madame Bovary- Both are novels about a woman who aspires to a higher station in life by way of using a man with money. Neither one loved the man they married, but used him shamelessly to get what they wanted.
Entry of 3/1--Misquote of Sade: "I am the one who has to be defeated and when I vanish I want all trace of my existence to be wiped out"--I suspect that Valerie herself wiped out her hard drive.
Entry of f3/2--"A fist with long claws is in my uterus clenching, unclenching, shredding, the talons stabbing me like hot fire"--the murderer may have read this entry; Greg? Who were the 4 planning to travel together the coming summer? Valerie, Greg, Brianna, and Annie?
Entry of 3/13--referring to "the whipping". This and other entries referring to "bruises in strange places", etc. Obviously, G. Giblini was into S&M. Also obvious that Valerie was new to this, but was going along in spite of being fearful. A refusal to participate on the evening of her death? An angry response? Playing S&M games with a .22 pistol? Gun goes off, intentional or unintentional? Attempt to then throw off investigators with the bathing and stabbing?
Last entry 3/31--where is "the old place"? Has site ever been located and searched?

Response: 3/1 -- We hadn't thought of that before. The victim may indeed have destroyed her own disk.
3/2 -- We have yet to determine who broke into the diary file.
The victim had apparently planned to travel with Greg Giblini over the summer. The diary is unclear as to whether others were to accompany them.
3/13 -- the reference you've noted is unclear. There are several possibilities. The victim may have been referring to a scene in the play she was studying in which the character of the Marquis de Sade is whipped, or possibly to the capital punishment she witnessed in Mountain Home. While the victim's relations with Greg Giblini were strange and violent, there are no overt references to sadomasochistic sexual practices.
3/31 -- "the old place" has not been located.

Is the victim lying face down a depersonalization by the perpetrator? This could point towards someone close to her. With the clothing (pants) pulled down exposing the underwear emulating sexual assault. This also could be the reason the condom that was left at the crime scene.

Response: The theory you suggest is insightful, though not conclusive. We're continuing our investigation.

Whats up with the Mail update thing? I tried to apply for it and it said Server not found?

Response: We're still working out bugs in the system. We apologize and thank you for your patience.

Thu Oct 3 17:50:24 1996

Were you able to determine whether the person who stabbed Valerie was left-handed or right-handed?

Response: No. The number and nature of the stab wounds make such determinations impossible.

I would take a closer look at this Lisa Wood. Her claims at being a friend of Valerie and the fact Valerie never mentions her is puzzling; also, with the phone calls Valerie was recieving from Arkansas and then recently from Mississippi makes me wonder. Also, is it possible that Greg wasn't there at the crime scene and Lisa just made up the bar sighting? Could it be that William just walked into the sitaution at the wrong time (he did say he wanted to visit) and told Greg, and being that Greg and he weren't close, that Greg did believe William killed Valerie and killed William? Wasn't Lisa also sighted in CA? I think I would look more at her & the biological parents; I also think Purity knows more then she's saying. Jake could be involved too?

Response: Lisa Wood sent Jennifer Breedlove a San Francisco postcard, postmarked from Palo Alto, in November of 1995. Since then we suspect she's moved farther north, into the Pacific Northwest. We're hoping to track her down soon. There are certainly inconsistencies in her story.

William Giblini's precise whereabouts during the crime itself are unknown, although blood found on the cat suggests he had visited the victim.

We've been investigating the victim's family connections in Arkansas and will post more information shortly.

Thu Oct 3 13:22:09 1996

Since V. was receiving harassing phone calls requiring a caller ID about Puritys abortion, could the person making these harassing phone calls be a suspect??? Considering the area that V was stabbed multiple times???

Response: We've been investigating the victim's family ties in Mountain Home and have developed some interesting leads, but no conclusions. Expect an update soon.

Thu Oct 3 01:06:54 1996

Please, can you tell me how Greg Giblini was murdered? Was he knifed too? And, in the investigation regarding his death, with whom was he yelling "all day...." according to his neighbor? A man or a woman?

Response: The victim was shot at close range. The neighbor reported hearing only the victim yelling.

Regarding the blood spattered on the fridge....was it thrown there? There is no way blood would splatter from a dead body in that manner. The circulatory system is under pressure (i.e. blood pressure) and in the event of death, the pumping action of the heart stops and the blood pools.
If you were to penetrate a region where it has pooled, you would still not generate a force of blood but a slow ooze. It is my belief that the girl was tortured before she was given the coup de grace.

Response: The blood splatter has been problematic for us. The coroner has suggested that the murderer may have deliberately splashed the blood onto the refrigerator. But the hypothesis you state here is interesting. Are you suggesting the victim was tortured in the kitchen, then brought to the bedroom and shot? Please respond to [email protected].

Wed Oct 2 20:08:38 1996

Have you identified the man in the photograph on the fridge?

Response: The man in the photograph has been positively identified as William Giblini.

Wed Oct 2 01:31:57 1996

if valerie was killed by a single shot to the head in the bedroom, then washed & dressed how can the blood splatter like that when she was mutilated if she were already dead?

Response: The victim's heart stopped pumping blood immediately after she was shot. However, the abdomen and groin areas normally have a significant supply of blood flowing through them. The wounds to those areas released the blood which had been circulating when the victim was killed. The victim was dressed and positioned after being mutilated.

Tue Oct 1 19:45:12 1996

How come no more mention of this Jake guy?, or valerie's biological parents?

Response: We're currently preparing a dossier of information pertaining to the victim's family in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Again, I love this site and am anxiously waiting for more information regarding the Giblini brothers, updated interview content & status (Briana, Purity, Annie, Jennifer Giblini, Tom Giblini, Valerie's parents [BOTH sets] and Tom Ash), search warrant results, etc. However, until then, I would like to know the following:
1. ARE you ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that the female murder victim was, in fact, Valerie Vilson??? OR could it possibly have been someone else, such as Briana?
2. Clown books and make-up were listed among the items found in Valerie's living room. In the picture, it looks like there was also either a yearbook or possibly a playbill. WERE any such items found?
3. Regarding the birth control pills: I am amazed by the number of comments submitted to you that so many people assumed that because Valerie got a prescription for birth control pills on 3/2, she would no longer have any need for Trojan products. Contracting STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) notwithstanding, Valerie did NOT become immune to getting pregnant when she got the prescription on 3/2! A woman does not begin taking birth control pills until she reaches a certain specific day during her "cycle." Furthermore, ALL pharmaceutical companies and doctors state that birth control pills must be taken for ONE FULL MONTH (cycle) before they take effect. As it appears from the picture that Valerie had only taken SIX pills (as of 4/2), she would still be relying on another form of birth control - or a [Trojan] condom!!! WHEN was the prescription filled? DID the autopsy reveal the female had ingested birth control pills?
4. Valerie wrote about her drinking quite often in her diary, but she NEVER wrote that she, whether alone or with Greg, Briana, Joey, etc., went out to bars. So, HOW did Jennifer Breedlove know her?
5. Greg Giblini was a minor, not yet 21 years old, prior to the murder. DIDN'T Jennifer Breedlove check his I.D. prior to serving him drinks at Proud Larry's? WHEN did Jennifer Breedlove start working there.
5. Valerie wrote frequently about her drinking in her diary, but she NEVER said anything that would indicate, or even hint, that she smoked pot. So, WHY would "Valerie" tell her new neighbor, Liz, right before the murder that Greg was in town and had brought some great pot? Also, Valerie went to great lengths to keep a very low profile after she moved. DOESN'T this conversation with Liz strike you as a glaring inconsistency?
6. WHO exactly is Lisa Woods? She is described as Valerie's "close friend," but yet Valerie NEVER mentioned Lisa in her diary. Might Lisa Woods actually be Purity?

Response: 1. Fingerprints taken from the victim's corpse are a positive match with Valerie Vilson's.
2. The item is a playbill for a student production of Hamlet.
3. The prescription was filled March 2, 1995. The packet in her purse was the second of three she was given.
4. The information in the diary is thought to be highly selective. Given the victim's predilection for alcohol, her acquaintance with a bartender is not surprising.
5. Breedlove did not check Giblini's ID. She started working at the bar in January of 1995.
5a. See #4, above, regarding the diary. In a recent interview, fellow student Joel Shenton attested that the victim was known to smoke marijuana.
6. The theory you suggest is unlikely, but worth exploring. Lisa Wood has been an elusive mystery.

Sun Sep 29 20:59:41 1996

I believe that Joey had something to do with it, because of the books found in the living room and the messages left on the machine

Response: We're currently evaluating the interview transcript to determine whether further investigation is necessary.

Sun Sep 29 20:20:42 1996

Were Greg and Valerie dating at the time of the murder?

Response: Yes. The victim's diary contains details of their romance.

Sun Sep 29 08:45:04 1996

WHERE THE DNA HAS AN UNUSUAL MATCH, THE BLOOD THAT WAS FOUND
ON THE CAT, COULD IT POSSIBLY BE A RELATIVE OF THE SUSPECT?

Response: New DNA evidence indicates the blood on the cat belonged to William Giblini. Check here for details.

Sat Sep 28 12:14:31 1996

Please clarify the order of events
1 Val was shot it the bedroom
2 Val was bathed
3 Val was put it the kitchen and stabbed
4 Val was dressed

Do I have 2 and 3 in the correct order?

Response: That is correct.

Fri Sep 27 21:56:58 1996

Have you found the .22?

Response: No.

Fri Sep 27 21:55:52 1996

1) Val was shot with a .22, Correct? But Gold's gun she had was a .38. 2)Have you recovered the weapon with which Val was stabbed in the abdomen? 3)As the blood on the cat is a positive match to Will - it puts him at the crime scene and makes him a prime suspect, correct? But what would his motive be?

Response: 1-Correct. There was no sign Professor Gold's weapon had been fired.
2-No, that weapon was never found.
3-You can't discount the possibility of a romance gone wrong. The diary raises some new questions.

Fri Sep 27 12:59:27 1996

How could a college student recover the hard drive, when a professional company couldn't?

Response: The doctoral student used expensive university mainframes to analyze and assemble the fragmented files. This equipment, combined with the time-intensive nature of the task, made this an unrealistic project for a commercial vendor.

Fri Sep 27 09:23:32 1996

With the exception of Joey, none of the other persons mentioned in Valerie's diary were interviewed. Not her former roommate (Brianna), her natural parents, her sister, no one. Why? Isn't it common to interview all persons close to the victim instead of people who just happened to see her in a bar the night before? Lisa Woods (who seems to have everyone's interest) was not even close enough to the victim to get a mention in her diary. Yet, a lot of attention has been focused on her.

Since she told Brianna the reason for the phone harrassment was because of her assistance in Purity's abortion and since she moved out because of Brianna's fear of the harrassment, a simple interview 18 months ago, might have helped the investigators. Why wasn't she interviewed and more importantly, why didn't she come forward with the information about the Arkansas relatives? Does she know more that she's not sharing?

Response: Those interviews are underway. Our attempt to interview Briana was thwarted when she failed to return for the fall semester of school.

Fri Sep 27 09:03:05 1996

Why were all the responses to the December comments erased?

Response: A file error destroyed them.

Fri Sep 27 08:57:26 1996

Something that puzzles me . . . . During the months of October/November 95, several of your responses to readers' comments clearly stated that DNA tests were run on the blood found on the cat:
Now you're saying "DNA testing is not done as often as TV depicts. No tests were done." (8-7-96 05:02:25) and...

Response: The DNA at the Vilson crime scene was matched to William Giblini using a new digital image process developed at Berkley University. DNA comparison is available here.
There is a positive match with William Giblini's DNA. It is Tom Giblini's DNA that has never been tested.
