Since there is evidence of condoms being used in consensual sex, and since the victim was on birth control pills, there is obviously a concern regarding HIV infection. If the perp wasn't gay, can't it be assumed that he was an IV drug user. Perhaps his deceased brother was also, explaining the Florida connection and a brutal death, common in drug deals gone bad among hypes. IV drug users need a sourse of drugs and their fellow users have information. Have you looked for your suspect in your IV drug community?

Response: Your premise is invalid because there is no physical evidence of sexual activity. The presence of condoms does not infer AIDS, IV drug user or gay.

Response: The only prints in the house belonged to Greg Giblini and the victim. The victim's friends say she only occasionally used marijuana. The lack of evidence, perhaps does suggest planning.

Just exactly where is Yoknapatawpha county? What is it's county seat?

What evidence was found at the crime scene that links up Giblini's brother 
to his death?

Response: Expect that information to be released after August 7th.

I'm a bit confused regarding Giblini's age. It states that he was 33 at the 
time of his death, which would make him 2 years younger than I am...Could you 
maybe have made an error and mean 1988 and 1989? Either that or I have somehow 
missed something in my reading! Sorry.

Response: Sorry. It's a typo. His age was 38.

1. What was the time of the phone message? 2. Could Greg have thought 
Valerie was cheating on him? 3. Is the picture on the refrigerator the same 
person that the letter was addressed to? 4. Could there have been a third 
person present at or near the time of the murder (i.e. the man the letter was 
addressed to)?

Response:
1-The message was left at about 5:00 PM, the day before the murder.
2-Valerie and Greg were monogamous.
3-The letter was addressed to Tom Ash. The photo is apparently one of William Giblini.
4-Ash, the letter's recipient, was at National Guard training. However, DNA evidence seems to point to a third person. The partial DNA match indicates the third person may be related. Unofficially, that third person may be William Giblini.

According to the information you've given, Willaim Giblini was 33 when he 
died. Yet you say he graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1978, 
whereupon he married his high school sweetheart. In 1978, William would have 
been 16 years old. This is definitely out of the ordinary. Any comments?

Valerie was going to accept an internship job at a theatre in Jackson, MS. 
Who got the job after she was killed?

Response: The intern program was discontinued due to internal political turmoil at the theatre. In short, the victim's connection at the theatre was fired.

The DNA traced from the blood on the cat possibly belongs to either 
William or Tom Giblini because of the similarities. In addition, both brothers 
have the technological expertise to erase the hard drive from their work at 
Rosebud. Question 1 : Does Greg Giblini have a passenger license because he is 
unable to drive a car? Question 2 : What are the physical descriptions of Tom 
and William Giblini ?

1-Greg Giblini is licensed to drive passenger vehicles.
2-William Giblini was 5'11'', 175 lbs, black hair, red-tinted beard. He was 38 at the time of his death.
Tom Giblini has asked that he not be identified in this file.

What kind of relationship (friendly, hostile, etc.) did Lisa Wood have 
with Greg Giblini?

Response: They barely knew each other. Giblini did not associate with the victim's friends.

What was the relationship between William GIBLIN and Valerie, had they 
previously met, were they involved in some type of relationship, had Greg 
become aware of their relationship. Was the residence of WILSON secure or 
insecure at the time of police attendance. Were the locksets examined under 
microscope to possibly clarify this if still in doubt. Is Greg GIBLIN going to 
be featured on America's Most Wanted in the near future. Was there some type 
of blood trail leaving the scene. Has WILSON made any previous complaints to 
police regarding spousal abuse or assault from GIBLIN or voiced her concerns 
about potential violence from GIBLIN. Excellent format for such an 
investigation, unheard of before this, thanks for showing the way..

Response:
1-At this time we are back-tracking William Giblini's movements to determine if he was in Oxford on the day of the murder. There is nothing to indicate that the two victims knew each other.
2-The house was locked with a simple doorknob passage lock. No evidence of forced entry. Although the window leading into the kitchen had been broken for some time, this avenue did not appear to be used as an entrance point. The killer likely entered and exited thru the door.
3-We have had several conversations with Joe Russo at America's Most Wanted. They have no plans, at present, to present this case.
4-There are no recorded complaints of domestic abuse. By all accounts, the relationshipbetween Giblini and the victim was placid.

This is a great site! I know that there are current projects underway in 
local municipalities involving DNA pattern matching. Has this progressed to 
the state and national levels yet? Keep up the good work.

Has RFLP analysis been done on William Giblini's DNA? If so, does it match 
the pattern found from the blood of the third person possibly at the scene of 
the crime? It's the similarities between Greg Giblini's DNA and the third 
person that makes me wonder if perhaps he was somehow involved in the murder 
of Valerie. Also, what was William Giblini doing in Florida if his business 
was in California? Is it possible that Greg killed William to eliminate the 
only other witness (or participant) in the murder? Did they meet in Florida 
to avoid the possibility that someone who knew William would spot the two of 
them together and call the police (or that the brothers thought it would be 
risky for them to meet in an area they might expect Greg to go to at some 
point?)

Response: DNA tests are being run on William Giblini. No information on the purpose of Giblini's visit. The Hotel is near the airport. He may have just been passing through.

I would have thought that it was pretty obvious that the killer used 
condoms in order to avoid being identified from the DNA analysis of the semen. 
A _very_ cool site, by the way. Congratulations to the detectives involved on 
their imaginative use of the technology. If they were all as smart and as open 
as you, I bet we'd solve a lot more crimes.

Very interesting case. I have a couple of comments:
1.) The murder most probably was done by someone well known to Valerie due to 
the unforced entry, the apparent knowledge concerning Val's new gun, the fact 
that the cat was close to the killer (or perhaps even petted by the killer 
after the murder) which is the only possible ways the blood could have gotten 
on the cat and also, the anger involved in the murder is likely to be personal 
and not random (as is suggested by the extreme mutilation of the body AFTER 
the murder). 
2.) The picture on the refrigerator looks very similar to Lisa Wood and not 
some man. I would be interested in checking her blood against the unknown sample 
found at the murder scene. Also, Lisa's photo and description on her driver's 
license matches in many ways to the desciption of the murderer sought in 
California (April 1993 robbery and murder). 3.) Lisa's motive is very unclear 
as no evidence links her to the victim other than the picture on the refrigerator 
(assuming the picture really is of her). The mutilation strongly suggested either 
jealousy or possibly an attempt to implicate some one else (such as Valerie's 
boyfriend). 4.) I was unable to find any information as to why Greg Giblini is 
linked to his brother's murder. This would shed some light on the subject at

As for the Lisa Wood connection, I think it's highly speculative. Based on conjecture, as opposed to factual evidence. More so, the DNA evidence suggests a male.

Why does everyone involved in this scenario have a drivers license from a 
different state. I realize that that does not have anything to do with 
anything, just curious to know if they were all transient people.

Response: Most were in Oxford as a result of the University of Mississippi.

Question, Valorie's coroner photo's and the Detecive's evidence files on 
William were both listed as "No Data Present" when I ran both of them twice on 
7-20-95. Is this a glitch on the Net or has some one lifted them? 	If some 
one has lifted them do you know if anything else is missing that we might not 
have discovered yet and if so, what? If anything is missing from the files is 
any one missing from your offices? 	This is facinating and I know you are both

Response: I can't answer that.

Commenting on the supposition that an electromagnet aced the hard 
drive: --Something that could actually do it would draw a HUGE amount of 
electricity. Utility records would show a spike in usage whenever that 
occurred, whether around time of death or otherwise. This action would not be 
readily available to just anyone. --It seems very unlikely that anything 
beyond a commercial wipe program was used to ace the dard drive.

Response: The electric meter shows a huge drain the morning of the murder. The data is magnetically wiped away.

...Why is Yoknapatawpha County handling this investigation?

Response: The Yoknapatawpha County jurisdication allows greater freedom in public access to information.

Question the woman who gave Val the 38 further. She seems to be holding 
something back. How many people let others borrow a gun without a really good, 
specific reason? Does greg have any friends in the area? Someone must know 
whether he knew if Val was on BCP or not. The condoms seem to suggest that he 
didn't or that they were both being very safe, rare in these times. Is there 
any possibility the puncture wounds were made before the victim was taken to 
the bathtub? This would explain the blood on walls and fridge. Another victim 
seems unlikely as there is no blood outside of the apartment. Additionally, 
the clearing of the hard drive seems to suggest that Val may have found 
something out and possibly written it to a file on the Mac or another disk. 
The assailant would have had to have known this or at least be concerned. 
Took the disks, kill the drive just to be safe.

Response:
1-The woman that loaned the .38 is a teacher, very unlikely to be involved. She has a reputation for being a soft touch. Students constantly go to her with money or family problems. She really seemed to be acting altruistically. She just wanted to help.
2-The couple was very involved in safe sex education and AIDS awareness. He probably knew she was on the pill prescription.
3-Little to support that. The puncture wounds were not as deep as the bloody refrigerator suggests. That bloody fridge was intentionally spattered with blood collected from the body.
4-It is probable that the assailant took the disks. No mative exists yet.

I've noticed several responses in which you said that the Mac's hard 
drive was "rendered useless by a powerful electric current". Hard drives are 
sealed, and it would seem unlikely that it was opened and a current applied 
directly to the disk platters, physically damaging the surface. If the disk 
was damaged by applying high voltage/current to either the power or data 
connections to the disk (which still requires opening the computer case), it 
is likely that the spin motor and/or stepper motor are fried, or that the 
read/write heads have been damaged. In the case of blown motors, they can be 
replaced. If the heads have been destroyed, they may have overwritten part of 
the first track, but that is generally recoverable without much difficulty. 
The other possibility is that the disk was magnetically wiped with a degausing 
coil, essentially a powerful electromagnet. While this is easy with floppy 
disks, it's rather more of a challenge with a hard disk. The computer case 
contains metal RF shielding which would significantly attenuate the magnetic 
field of the degausing coil. Even if the disk were removed, the disk case is 
made of steel, and would still serve to protect the magnetic media. Even 
partial weakening of the magnetic data can often be recovered by professional 
recovery experts. So, can you be more specific about how the disk was 
damaged? It's not clear that it would be unrecoverable under any of the 
circumstances listed here.

You have some intelligent observations that should be addressed. I'd like to ask some questions. Thanks

A. There must be a second victim, because: If Val was killed in the 
bedroom by the headshot, by the time she had been bathed, dressed, and taken 
to the kitchen, her blood pressure would have fallen to zero. The spattering 
seen on the surfaces in the kitchen, some quite high off the floor, must have 
come from someone very much alive. Do DNA typing on the blood in the kitchen 
to see if it matches any of the principles in the case. B. I would also type 
members of Greg's family. Some would have the knowledge to wipe the computer's 
hard disk,they might have red hair (like Greg), and might have a DNA banding 
pattern showing similarities to Greg, as in the blood found on the cat. CC. 
Check the bathtub trap for traces of hair and fiber which might have been left 
by the killer(s).

Response:
A- The blood was intentionally spattered. This accounts for the spread.
B- DNA tests are being run on William Giblini.
C- Valerie Vilson's Hair, tissue, and blood were found in the drain.

Two comments. If the victim had been on birth control pills for more than 
two months, a condom wouldn't have been needed for contraception, though maybe 
still for safe sex. Both of these suggest that the sex might have been with 
someone other than Greg, who presumably would know she was taking BCPs. The 
second, probably equally obvious, is there another Greg in either the victim's 
or her boyfriend's past; especially located anywhere near Chicago?

Have you tried Norton Disk Doctor. If the hard drive was degaussed, it 
may not have been totally erased. Norton can even look for fragments of files. 
I would use te "Emergency Disk" that comes with norton to boot the computer 
up, then try to recover the hard drive.

number of the soldier that the mask was adjusted to fit, probably a reservist,

was no mention of victims family.

Response: 1-Whoever erased the hard drive wanted to ruin the computer storage system. A powerful electrical current rendered it useless. 2-The victim earned a stipend while attending graduate school. 3-Her family does not wish to divulge personal information.

Could you please try to update when you post that you're going to? Or, if 
you can't, at least post another date when you expect to be ready? It's costly 
to keep logging on here only to find that you've missed your own deadline yet 
again. This time it's July 15th, and you said you'd be updating by July 5th. 
Also, why won't you say clearly and without playing games whether or not this 
is a real investigation? Don't you think, since we're spending money to be

Response: Sorry. We have been in Florida, at the scene of a crime that seems to be related. We'll update you further VERY SOON. As for the spending money part, complain to the people taking your money. We do this as a service. We receive no pay.

Unless the computer was brand new there would likely be info on it's hard 
drive. Since there APPEARED TO BE NONE it would follow that it was "erased". 
If someone knew enough to overwrite the entire drive they might actually 
destroy all info on it. If they didn't know enough or if they were too rattled 
by events they might have simply reformatted the drive - THIS DOES NOT, REPEAT 
NOT remove the info on the drive - only the access to it. There are numerous 
companies that can recover part or all of the info on magnertic material - 
possible source of new leads since it appears the perpetrator thought it 
important enough to clear the drive. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR CASE. gfh

I've never seen a computer generated file enhancment of a situation such 
as this. It seems as this could be a superb way of communication with a large

Hi, I notice that there is information linking Greg to Chicago (statement 
of Liz White, and nature of Marijuana). Greg's biography does not support 
this. If Liz was involved in the crime, she might know the nature of the 
Marijuana, and might be saying what she does about victim's claim tha Greg is 
from Chicago in order to artificially link him with the marijuana. Or, she 
may simply have heard wrong. Victim might have said "Greg has some killer 
smoke from Chicago" Alternately, this all might suggest that Greg is in 
Chicago; that the search for him should go there. By the way, I can't tell if 
this is searious, or just some kind of a game, from this WWW page. If it is 
serious, I hope this helps.
