The witness, the 12-year-old girl who discovered the vandalism
scene, was interviewed, with the permission of her parents, at
the Whitehead residence at 424 Old Taylor Road, CR 323. The interview
was conducted by Detectives Armstrong and Murphy and was recorded
on a portable tape recorder with the witness' knowledge and consent.
- TA = Detective T. Armstrong
- SM = Detective S. Murphy
- MF = Megan Ferris
TA: Megan, would you just tell us your name, age and address
for the record?
MF: Okay. Megan Ferris; 12; 124 County Road 332, Taylor,
Mississippi.
SM: Miss Ferris, could you tell us what happened this morning?
MF: Kyle Whitehead came over and was like, did I want to
hang out with him. And I was like, sure. So we went through the
woods into his pasture and then came to the woods by the creek.
Kyle and I are kinda going together. We got in the woods and sat
down on a fallen tree and kissed a little bit. It was our first
time. I was kinda nervous, so I ran off to get him chasing me.
He did. And then we just ran up to it. It was a place that looked
cleared off. And there was a campfire that had gone out. And the
bottles were there. And that dead chicken. It just about scared
me to death. So we ran back to tell Kyle's father. And that's how
it happened.
SM: Did you touch or move anything from the site?
MF: Kyle kicked one of the bottles a little, and he poked
the chicken with a stick, but that was it. I was so scared. I was
yelling for him to come on.
TA: Did you see anything else unusual on the way back?
MF: No, sir. I don't remember anything except running full
speed to his house.
TA: Have you ever seen anything unusual in the woods by
the creek?
MF: No, sir. Nothing.
TA: Was there every anyone else in the woods?
MF: No, sir. I only went back there about ten times.
SM: Have you noticed any strangers around in the past couple
of weeks?
MF: No, ma'am. I don't remember anybody.
SM: Did Kyle ever tell you about anybody?
MF: No, ma'am. We mainly talked about people at school.
TA: All right, thank you, Miss Ferris. You've been a great
help.
MF: You're welcome, Detective.
SM: If we want to ask you anything else later, would that
be okay with you? We'll check with your parents first, of course,
to make sure it's okay with them.
MF: Yes, ma'am. That'd be fine with me.
