Supplemental Report #064 |
Reporting Investigators (R/Is) were present during the two-day
(March 18 and 19, 2005) K-9 search conducted at the Hartigan property by the Lee County
Sheriff's Department K-9 unit cadaver dogs. The K-9 teams alerted on
two distinct areas as locations where human remains were present.
Yoknapatawpha County CSU processed both locations.
Excavation of the first location, approximately
117 feet NNE of the pool house,
uncovered skeletal human remains underneath ground cover and
approximately 21 inches of soil. Preliminary inspection at the scene
indicates the remains are female, but further analysis by the Coroner's
Office is needed for confirmation and identification of the remains.
Time of death could not be determined at the scene. Just prior to
suspension of processing at the end of the day on this date, CSU
technicians uncovered what they believe to be skeletal fetal remains
in the same grave, though further examination is necessary to verify
that presumption.
Excavation of the second location, approximately
225 feet NNW of the pool
house,
uncovered partially decomposed human remains underneath approximately
27 inches of soil. Preliminary inspection at the scene
indicates the remains are female. The head, arms, and feet are not
present at the scene. Further analysis by the Coroner's
Office is needed for confirmation and identification of the remains.
Time of death could not be determined at the scene.
As of this date, CSU and the Yoknapatawpha County Coroner's
Office are still processing the scene and the remains.
Investigation of YCSD Case # 000181-15A-2005 is active and
ongoing as of this date.
