Biography: Katherine Dixon

Katherine Jacqueline Dixon was born to Valentine Delacroix Dixon and Carl Dean Dixon on March 17, 1978. Though a month premature and with a birth weight of 4.75 pounds, she grew into a healthy, precocious child who was the apple of her daddy's eye. Being a very happy child, she managed to endear herself to any and all who met her. Her beautiful, green "cat eyes" earned her the nickname Kat from the time she was three years old.

In 1982, when Kat was just four years old, her mother Valentine died from an overdose of pain medication. Valentine had cancer and had fought the disease for many years before finally giving in to it. Though Kat keeps an album of photographs of Valentine and wears her mother's wedding ring on a chain around her neck, she does not have any clear memories of her mother and this has always alarmed and saddened her.

When Kat was five years old, a man attempted to kidnap her by offering her candy and telling her he had a puppy in his car she could play with. As with most children, Kat loved candy and puppies and went with the man willingly. Fortunately, her father Carl caught this man leading his daughter away from the swings where she played, and was able to wrestle Kat away from him. In the process of saving Kat, Carl managed to break the abductor's arm; a small punishment, most people thought, for what he had tried to do to Kat. Valentine's death and the attempted kidnaping made Carl an overly protective father, which Kat constantly laments. She claims that when she was in high school, her father would clean his shotgun as he chatted with her dates while they waited for her to get ready. "Lessons in intimidation," she called it. Though for all her complaining, it is plain that she and her father are very close and adore one another. "At least I know one human being who truly loves me," she says of her father.

It is no secret that Kat recently developed a romantic interest in Devlin Beauchamp. She has attempted to get several people at Home Plate, including Mickie Webster (a former girlfriend of Beauchamp's), to help her get Beauchamp interested in her. Though by all accounts, Kat's affections were never returned by Beauchamp. The news of his death has greatly shocked and saddened her. She has told friends she plans to write a play about Devlin Beauchamp, his untimely death and their unrequited love.

Presently, Kat is a senior at Ole Miss. Though she has changed her major many times, she is expected to graduate in the Spring with a B.A. in drama. She works part time as a waitress at Home Plate and is the third baseman for company softball team.
